Social Links Show Up in 67.66% of Google AI Overviews — Your LinkedIn Posts Now Work Double Shifts
An SE Ranking study of 100,000 keywords found social platform links in 67.66% of Google AI Overviews, 32.39% of AI Mode replies and 8.4% of ChatGPT answers.

An SE Ranking study of 100,000 keywords found links to social platforms in 67.66% of Google AI Overviews, Social Media Today reported on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The same links appeared in 32.39% of Google AI Mode replies and 8.4% of ChatGPT answers.
The study looked at keywords across a range of brand niches to see which sources Google and AI chatbots cite. YouTube was the most-cited source in AI Overviews. In ChatGPT, Reddit and LinkedIn were the top social platforms, though Reddit, LinkedIn and Facebook each appeared in fewer than 1% of its answers.
The numbers
Google AI Overviews: 67.66% of responses included a social link.
Google AI Mode: 32.39%, about half the AI Overviews rate.
ChatGPT: 8.4%, roughly one-eighth of the AI Overviews rate.
AI Mode, by query type: social sources appeared in 39.34% of branded and 48.58% of non-branded responses. Facebook, YouTube and Reddit were cited most.
Citations also move. In August, Search Engine Land reported that Reddit's share of ChatGPT search citations fell 86.4% in four days.
Why it matters
Same post. Two jobs. It reaches buyers in the feed, and it can become a source an AI engine cites when a buyer researches the category.
The math says which job is reliable. A 67.66% citation rate in AI Overviews makes social content a real input to Google's AI answers. Below 1% per platform in ChatGPT does not. And an 86.4% drop in four days shows any one engine's citations can disappear quickly.
So treat AI citations as a bonus, not the plan. The part you control is the post, and the people who engage with it. That audience is yours whatever an engine decides next week. See how to build a LinkedIn content strategy that generates leads and which engagement signals matter.
What to do now
Post on the questions buyers ask about your category, in plain language that's easy to quote.
Track which engines cite you separately. Google and ChatGPT behave differently.
Measure pipeline from engagement, not AI mentions.
traxy detects which buyers engage with your LinkedIn content, qualifies them against your ICP automatically, and delivers them to Slack or your CRM while the attention is still warm. Start with a 7-day free trial.
