**Track the LinkedIn accounts whose audiences overlap with your buyers, and tag each one by its relationship to you. Competitors bring people who are already comparing options. Customers bring their peers, who often look like your next customers. Influencers in your niche bring a steady flow of people interested in the problem. GTM engineers and other practitioners bring hands-on buyers. Specific posts catch a single spike of interest, and company pages catch people engaging with a brand. In traxy, each tracked profile shows the leads it produced and a trend line, so after a few weeks you can see which sources bring buyers and drop the rest.**

## Why does who you track matter more than how many?

Tracking works by reading who engages with a post. In traxy, when you track a person's profile, traxy picks up each new post they publish and qualifies the people who engage with it against your lead criteria ([track people, posts and companies](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/tracking) ). Those engagers are the leads.

So the source decides the audience. A creator with a huge general following gives you a lot of engagers and few buyers. A niche practitioner with a small following can give you more fits. Tracking 300 profiles at random gives you volume. Tracking 30 chosen ones gives you leads you'll want to contact.

## What should you track, and what does each source give you?

Source

Relationship tag

What its engagers tend to be

What to say to them

A competitor's founder or sales lead

Competitor

People evaluating the category

The problem, and how you approach it differently

A happy customer

Custom label, e.g. Customer

The customer's peers, often similar companies

A shared context ("teams like {customer type}")

A niche influencer or creator

Influencer

People interested in the problem

The topic of the post they engaged with

A GTM engineer or practitioner

Custom label, e.g. GTM Engineer

Hands-on operators and tool buyers

A specific workflow or fix

One specific post

(post tracking)

A spike of interest in one topic

The exact topic of that post

A company page

(company tracking)

People engaging with that brand

The brand's topic, carefully

### Competitors

Track the people at competitors who post: founders, heads of sales, product marketers. People who comment on a competitor's launch post, or ask a question under it, are often in the middle of a decision. Treat it as a reason to look closer, not proof they're buying. Our guide to [building a competitor watchlist](https://traxy.ai/blog/how-to-build-linkedin-competitor-watchlist) covers who to pick.

Add your competitors on the **Signals** screen too, so traxy treats mentions and engagement with them as relevant.

### Customers

Track customers who post on LinkedIn. Their engagers include their colleagues, partners and peers at similar companies. This is one of the better sources for lookalike buyers, because the peer group already matches your best accounts.

Don't mention the customer by name in outreach unless they've agreed to it.

### Influencers

Track the creators your buyers follow. Pick by audience, not follower count. A good test is to open their last five posts and read the commenters' titles. If you see your buyers, track them.

### GTM engineers and other practitioners

If you sell tools or services to operators, track the people who post detailed how-tos for that role. Their engagers are often the person who'll evaluate and set up a tool. Add your own label such as **GTM Engineer** so you can compare their leads with your influencer leads.

### Specific posts

Track a single post when it's clearly about your problem: a viral complaint about a tool, a "what are you all using for X?" question, a competitor's pricing change. In traxy, choose **Track post**, paste the URL and review the candidate scope before confirming **Find leads**. The post view shows its engagements, the leads it produced and their ICP match, and an **auto scan** toggle keeps it checked as new people engage. See [find leads from any LinkedIn post](https://traxy.ai/blog/find-leads-from-linkedin-post-traxy-agent) .

### Company pages

Track a company by its domain. traxy reads that company's LinkedIn posts and returns the engagers who match your ICP. This works for competitor brands, partner brands and category leaders. Our guide on [company page engagers](https://traxy.ai/blog/linkedin-company-page-engagers-leads) has examples.

### Keywords: use social intent search

Keywords aren't something you add in Tracking. For topics that aren't tied to one person or brand, use [social intent search](https://traxy.ai/social-intent-search) . Describe the person and the need in a sentence and traxy searches more than 71 million scanned LinkedIn likes, posts and comments.

## How do you set up tracking in traxy?

1. **Set your lead criteria first.** Tracking only returns people who fit, with an ICP match of at least 50 percent ([qualification](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/qualification) ).

2. **Open Targeting, then Tracking.** Choose **People**, **Posts** or **Companies**.

3. **Add a profile and pick its relationship.** Competitor, Teammate, Influencer or Investor, or choose Custom to add your own label, such as Customer or GTM Engineer.

4. **Let it run.** traxy checks recent posts when you add a profile, then follows new posts. Followed profiles are checked twice a day. Ongoing monitoring follows the five most recent posts published after you added the profile. For an older post, add it by URL.

5. **Review leads per source.** Each profile shows how many leads it produced and a trend line.

Example prompts in trax:

> "Track these five competitor founders and tag them Competitor. Then show me this week's leads from them who are heads of sales."
>
> "Which of my tracked influencers produced the most leads in the last 30 days, and which produced none?"

## How do you know a source is working?

After two to four weeks, sort your tracked profiles by leads produced. Then:

- **Keep** sources with steady leads that fit.

- **Check** sources with many leads but weak fit. Your lead criteria may be too loose, or the audience is mostly peers.

- **Pause** sources with no leads. A profile that posts rarely, or whose audience is outside your market, takes up a slot for nothing. You can pause or remove a profile and restore it later.

Use **Insights** to see lead volume, trends and top profiles and posts in one place ([Insights](https://docs.traxy.ai/reporting/performance) ). Several posts can include the same person, so add up post counts carefully.

## What are the limits?

- **Engagement is evidence of interest in a topic, not of budget.** Read the signal before you reach out.

- **Some people engage with almost anything.** Relevance rules on the Signals screen help filter them out.

- **The monitoring window is recent posts.** Use a specific post request for anything older.

## FAQ

**How do I track a competitor on LinkedIn?**

Track the people at the competitor who post, and their company page by domain. In traxy, tag them Competitor so you can review their leads separately.

**Can I see who engages with someone else's LinkedIn posts?**

Engagement on public posts is visible on LinkedIn. traxy collects the people who engage with the profiles and posts you track and keeps the ones who fit your buyer profile.

**How often does traxy check tracked profiles?**

Twice a day for new posts.

**How many profiles should I track?**

Start with 20 to 40 chosen sources across competitors, customers and influencers. Add more once you know which types produce leads.

**What relationship tags does traxy support?**

Competitor, Teammate, Influencer and Investor are built in. Choose Custom to add your own labels, such as Customer or GTM Engineer.
