**To turn a LinkedIn signal into a message, match the message to what the person did. A comment or question gets a reply to the problem they raised. Engagement with someone else's post gets the topic as context. A good fit with no strong signal gets a plain, role-based introduction. Then connect the topic to one problem your offer solves and end with a small ask. In traxy, each lead's Signals tab shows the recorded evidence and its source, so you can write the template from what is there and check every preview before anything sends.**

## Why do signal-based messages often fall flat?

Many recent guides on signal-based selling lean on company events such as a funding round, a new hire or a job posting. Those make easy openers, and many teams send the same ones.

LinkedIn engagement is a different kind of signal. It tells you what a person paid attention to, in public, recently. It does not tell you their budget, their timeline or whether they agree with the post. Messages fall flat when they treat the signal as more than it is:

- "Saw you liked my post, so you must be looking for..." claims intent the person never showed.

- "Congrats on the growth!" says nothing about the person.

- "I noticed you're interested in outbound" could describe a large share of LinkedIn.

Write the message from the evidence, at the strength of the evidence.

## What does each kind of LinkedIn signal support?

This table follows traxy's guidance on using signals in outreach ([use signals in outreach](https://docs.traxy.ai/using-traxy/signal-cheat-sheet) ).

Evidence

What it supports

What to avoid

A relevant comment or question

A reply to the specific problem they raised

Claiming they intend to buy

A relevant post by the person

Connecting your offer to the topic they discussed

Inventing a current project or budget

Engagement with someone else's post

Using the topic as context when the interaction supports it

Claiming they endorse every idea in the post

Company or role fit with no strong signal

A factual, role-based introduction

Inventing an interaction to sound personal

![Evidence, what it supports and the opener shape: a comment or question, their own post, engagement with someone else's post, and fit with no strong signal](https://traxy.ai/assets/blog/linkedin-signal-to-message-1.webp)

In traxy, signal labels give a quick read on strength ([signals](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/signals) ):

- **Warm**: a direct signal relevant to your offer.

- **Related**: contextual evidence related to your offer.

- **Activity**: observed activity with a weaker connection.

- **ICP match**: fit, with no recorded signal of the other types.

Signal strength and ICP match answer different questions. Check both before you decide what to say.

## How do you map a signal to the problem you solve?

Write three lines for every signal type you plan to use:

1. **What they did.** The observable fact. "Commented on a post about SDR ramp time."

2. **What it might mean for them.** Stated as a possibility. "They may be hiring or training reps."

3. **What you can offer for that.** One specific, useful thing. "A two-page onboarding checklist we use with sales teams."

If you cannot write line 3 for a signal, that signal does not belong in this campaign.

Adam's [personalized LinkedIn outbound guide](https://traxy.ai/guides/linkedin-outbound-guide) uses four parts for every message: an observation from the signal, what it means for them, something useful you can offer, and an ask they can answer with one word. The three lines above give you the first three parts.

## What do these messages look like?

The examples are templates, not results. Slots are in braces.

**Comment or question (Warm):**

> "Hi {first\_name}, you asked under {author}'s post how teams handle {problem}. We've worked through that with {company type} teams. I can send the short checklist we use. Want it?"

**Their own post (Warm or Related):**

> "{first\_name}, your post on {topic} made a point I don't see often: {their point}. We help {company type} teams with {related problem}. Would a two-minute breakdown of how we approach it be useful?"

**Engagement with someone else's post (Related):**

> "Hi {first\_name}, I saw you in the conversation on {topic} this week. We work with {role}s at {company type} companies on {problem}. Is that on your plate at {company}?"

**Fit, no strong signal (ICP match):**

> "Hi {first\_name}, I work with {role}s at {company type} companies on {problem}. If that is something you handle at {company}, I'd be glad to share what we're seeing. Worth a look?"

None of them mention a like. Each one claims only what the evidence shows.

## How do you build this inside traxy?

Each step happens in traxy. The docs page for each step is linked.

### 1\. Get the evidence right first

Open **Lead criteria** for who fits and **Signals** for the topics that make someone relevant to your offer ([lead criteria](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/lead-criteria) , [signals](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/signals) ). If the signals keep pointing at the wrong problem, change the topics. If the people are wrong, change the criteria.

### 2\. Group leads by signal type

Open **Leads**, filter by signal label and the topic you want, and save one shared view per message angle ([filter and save audiences](https://docs.traxy.ai/leads/saved-views) ). For example, "Commented on SDR hiring" and "Fit, no signal: sales leaders."

Example prompt in trax:

> "Show me Warm leads whose signal is a comment or question about {topic}. Quote the evidence for each one."

### 3\. Read the evidence before you write

Open a few leads in each view and read the **Signals** tab: the recorded observation, its source link and its date ([review qualified leads](https://docs.traxy.ai/leads/overview) ). Write your template from what you see there.

### 4\. Prepare and test a campaign per view

Ask trax to prepare a campaign for one view, with your offer and your template ([create a campaign](https://docs.traxy.ai/campaigns/create) ). You write the template. The test prepares research and previews and sends nothing.

Example prompt in trax:

> "Create a campaign for the 'Commented on SDR hiring' view. Offer: {offer}. Use my template below and reference the comment each person left. Test it on five leads and show me the previews."

### 5\. Check every claim before launch

In the test results, check that each preview's first line matches the lead's recorded evidence ([review and launch](https://docs.traxy.ai/campaigns/review-and-launch) ). Ask trax to revise the plan when it relies on unsupported facts. If a lead's evidence is too weak for the angle, move them to the role-based view or skip them ([outbound from qualified signals](https://docs.traxy.ai/using-traxy/outbound-to-signal-based-leads) ).

Then review the launch dialog: who joins, who is excluded, the sender and the delivery mode.

## What are the common mistakes?

- **Mentioning the like.** Mention the topic instead.

- **One message for every signal.** A comment and a like support different openers. Use separate views.

- **Old evidence.** Check the date. A comment from three months ago is a weaker opener than one from this week.

- **Inventing the gap.** "Your outbound must be struggling" is a guess. Ask instead.

- **Skipping the review.** A preview that overstates the evidence is easier to fix before launch than after a reply.

## FAQ

**What is signal-based selling?**

Contacting people because of something they did that relates to your offer, and using that as the reason for the message.

**Are LinkedIn likes buying signals?**

A like shows interest in a topic. It is a reason to look at the person, not proof that they want to buy.

**Should I mention the signal in the message?**

Mention the topic or the problem. Mentioning the like itself usually reads as surveillance.

**What if a lead has no signal?**

Use a plain, role-based introduction. Do not invent an interaction.

**Does traxy write the messages?**

You write the template. traxy prepares previews for each lead from your template and the research, and you review them before anything sends.
