**An ICP match score tells you how well a person fits the buyer you described: role, seniority, company size, industry and the other criteria you set. Signal strength tells you how relevant that person's recent activity is to what you sell. They answer different questions, and you need both before you contact anyone. A perfect-fit buyer with no signal gets a plain introduction. A strong signal from someone outside your ICP is usually a skip, however relevant their comment was. In traxy, a person becomes a lead only with an ICP match of at least 50 percent, and each lead also carries one of four labels: Warm, Related, Activity or ICP match. The first three come with the activity behind them; ICP match means the person fits with no recorded signal. Start with high fit and Warm or Related signals, then work outward.**

## What is an ICP match score?

ICP stands for ideal customer profile: the type of person and company most likely to buy from you and do well with your product. An ICP match score compares a specific person against that profile and says how close they are.

In traxy, you describe the profile in **Lead criteria** ([lead criteria](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/lead-criteria) ):

- **People criteria:** roles, departments, seniority and locations.

- **Company criteria:** size, industry, revenue, funding, and keywords or niches.

Every person traxy evaluates gets an ICP match against those criteria. A person qualifies as a lead only with a match of at least 50 percent ([how qualification works](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/qualification) ).

## What is signal strength?

Signal strength describes the evidence that makes a person relevant right now. In traxy, you describe the evidence you care about in **Signals**: the problems, topics and buying situations connected to your offer ([signals](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/signals) ).

Each lead then gets one of four labels:

Label

What it means

**Warm**

A direct signal relevant to your offer, such as a comment about the problem you solve

**Related**

Contextual evidence related to your offer

**Activity**

Observed activity with a weaker connection to your offer

**ICP match**

The person fits, with no recorded signal of the other types

Open a lead's **Signals** tab to see the actual post or comment and its date.

## Why keep fit and signal separate?

Because mixing them hides the reason a lead is on your list.

Many lead scoring models add fit points and activity points into one number. A VP at a target account with no activity and an intern who commented on five relevant posts can end up with the same score. One number can't tell you which conversation to have.

Keeping them apart answers two questions:

1. **Should we sell to this person at all?** That's fit.

2. **Do we have a reason to contact them now, and what should we say?** That's signal.

traxy's docs put it plainly: a relevant post doesn't make someone a qualified lead if they don't meet your criteria. And a missing signal doesn't prove someone has no interest. If you want a single score for routing in a CRM, our guide to [building a LinkedIn lead scoring model](https://traxy.ai/blog/how-to-build-linkedin-lead-scoring-model-engagement-signals-2026) covers how to weight the parts.

## Who should you contact first?

Put fit on one axis and signal on the other:

**Warm or Related signal**

**Activity or no signal**

**High ICP match**

Contact first. Reference the signal.

Plain role-based introduction, or wait for a signal

**Lower ICP match (still qualified)**

Contact if the signal is strong and specific

Lowest priority

**Below 50 percent (not a lead)**

Skip, or pass to a partner who serves them

Ignore

In practice:

- **High fit, Warm signal.** The best leads you have. Respond to what they said. Our guide on [turning a signal into a message](https://traxy.ai/blog/linkedin-signal-to-message) has examples.

- **High fit, no signal.** Buyers who fit but haven't shown anything recently. Use a short, factual introduction based on their role, and don't invent an interaction to sound personal ([signal cheat sheet](https://docs.traxy.ai/using-traxy/signal-cheat-sheet) ). Or save them to a view and wait for a signal.

- **Lower fit, Warm signal.** Check them by hand. Sometimes your criteria are too narrow and this is a buyer you didn't plan for. Sometimes it's a peer or a vendor commenting on a topic you share.

- **Strong signal, below 50 percent.** These people don't show up as leads in traxy. If you keep seeing good conversations from a group outside your criteria, that's a reason to revisit the criteria.

## What does a higher ICP filter do?

In the **Leads** list, you can filter for a higher ICP match, such as 70 or 80 percent. That narrows what you see. It doesn't change the 50 percent threshold for qualification, and it doesn't create new leads. Use it when you want a short, high-fit list for a campaign.

## How do you improve ICP match quality?

Three habits keep the scores useful:

1. **Make criteria specific.** "Sales leaders at software companies" works better than a long list of loosely related titles, according to the docs. If you need many titles, you may have two buyers, and each deserves its own criteria and campaign.

2. **Give fit feedback.** Mark leads **Good fit** or **Bad fit** with a reason. Feedback records your judgment. It doesn't rewrite the person's score directly, so review proposed targeting changes separately.

3. **Recheck after changes.** After you save new criteria, traxy can check your active leads against them and show how many no longer match. You decide whether to move those to **Done**.

## How do you improve signal quality?

If the people are right but the reasons are weak, work on **Signals**:

- Describe problems in the words buyers use. "Reply rates on cold email dropping" is easier to spot in a post than "outbound efficiency".

- Remove topics that pull in people who talk about your space without buying in it, such as other vendors and creators.

- Add tracked sources. Following a competitor or an influencer your buyers read gives traxy more relevant posts to check ([track people, posts and companies](https://docs.traxy.ai/discovery/tracking) ).

If the people are wrong, change **Lead criteria**. If the topics are wrong, change **Signals**. Changing both at once makes it hard to see which fix worked.

## FAQ

**What is an ICP score?**

A measure of how closely a person or company matches your ideal customer profile, based on criteria such as role, seniority, company size and industry.

**What is the difference between fit and intent scoring?**

Fit scores who the person is. Intent or signal scores what they've done recently that relates to your offer. Keeping them separate shows both whether to sell to someone and what to say.

**What ICP match does traxy require?**

At least 50 percent against your lead criteria. Filtering for a higher score narrows the list you see without changing that threshold.

**What do Warm, Related, Activity and ICP match mean in traxy?**

They describe signal strength. Warm is a direct signal relevant to your offer, Related is contextual evidence, and Activity is observed activity with a weaker connection. ICP match means the person fits your ICP with no recorded signal of the other types.

**Should I contact a lead with a high ICP match and no signal?**

Yes, with a plain introduction based on their role, or wait for a signal. Don't invent an interaction.
