**A hiring signal is an open role that tells you where a company is putting money and attention. A company hiring its first SDR is building outbound. A company hiring a Head of RevOps is about to look hard at its sales tools. Used well, a hiring signal tells you who to contact and what to talk about. Used badly, it produces "saw you're hiring" messages that every recruiter and vendor sends the same week. The difference comes from three things: matching the role to a problem your offer solves, contacting the person who owns that problem, and pairing the opening with a second signal, such as that person engaging with a related topic on LinkedIn. In traxy, you can find the people posting and commenting about the problem behind the hire, then check the evidence before you build a campaign.**

## What is a hiring signal?

A hiring signal is any public sign that a company is adding people to a function: a job post, a careers page listing, a LinkedIn post from a founder saying "we're hiring", or a recruiter sharing the role.

The role is the useful part. The fact that a company is hiring in general says little. A company hiring three account executives, a first marketer, or a Head of Customer Success tells you which problem is about to get budget, a new owner, or both.

Hiring signals belong to the trigger-event family of buying signals, along with funding rounds and job changes. They differ from engagement signals, which come from what a person says or reacts to. Our guide on [signal-based selling](https://traxy.ai/blog/signal-based-selling-linkedin-social-selling-evolution-b2b-2026) covers how the two families fit together.

## Which open roles signal a need for your offer?

Start from your offer and work backward. Which hire would make your product or service more useful, or more urgent? Some common pairs:

Open role

What it can mean

Offers it fits

First SDR or BDR

The company is starting outbound

Lead sources, outbound agencies, sales training, data tools

Several account executives

Sales team growth, quota pressure

Lead generation, enablement, sales tooling

Head of RevOps or Sales Ops

Someone will own the sales stack

CRM services, sales tools, data hygiene

First marketing hire

Marketing is being set up from scratch

Content agencies, ghostwriters, paid media agencies

Content or social media manager

Content is becoming a channel

LinkedIn ghostwriting, video production, analytics

Paid media or growth marketer

Ad spend is growing

Ad agencies, creative production, attribution tools

Customer success roles

Retention is a priority

CS platforms, onboarding services

Keep the list short. Two or three roles that clearly connect to your offer beat a long list of loose matches.

## Who should you contact when a company is hiring?

Rarely the recruiter. The best contact is usually one of these:

- **The hiring manager.** They own the problem the new hire will work on. Until the role is filled, they are often doing the work themselves.

- **The founder, in smaller companies.** At a 20-person company, the founder is often still running sales or marketing until the hire starts.

- **The new hire, after they start.** A new leader reviewing the setup they inherited is a good time to show them an option. This overlaps with job-change signals.

Check the job post for who the role reports to. Many posts say "reporting to the VP of Sales" or "working directly with the founder", which tells you who to look up.

## When should you reach out about an open role?

Two windows work, and they call for different messages:

1. **While the role is open.** The hiring manager is short a person. Offer help that covers the gap, or that makes the new hire productive faster. Keep it short and don't assume the hire will fail.

2. **After the person starts.** New leaders review the setup they inherited and often have room to change it. Lead with something relevant to their first months.

Check the date on the post. Some roles stay listed for months, and some are posted to collect applications with no active plan to hire. A role that has been open a long time is a weaker signal than one posted this week.

## Why combine a hiring signal with a second signal?

Because the opening is public and anyone can see it. Vendors watching job boards all send messages to the same companies the same week.

A second signal helps you pick which companies to contact and gives you something specific to say. The strongest second signals are about the person, not the company:

- The hiring manager commented on a LinkedIn post about building a first sales team.

- The founder posted about struggling to find good leads.

- Someone on the team engaged with a competitor's post about the problem you solve.

A company hiring an SDR whose founder also commented "outbound has been brutal this quarter" is a better lead than a company with the same opening and no other context. traxy's [social intent search](https://traxy.ai/social-intent-search) finds the second kind: describe the person and the topic in plain English, such as "founders of B2B software companies talking about hiring their first salesperson", and traxy searches more than 71 million scanned LinkedIn likes, posts and comments.

## How do you find hiring-related signals on LinkedIn in traxy?

There are two ways in.

**Start from the conversation.** Ask trax to find posts on the topic. "Find posts about hiring a first sales team" is one of the example prompts in the [traxy docs](https://docs.traxy.ai/agent/overview) . trax finds matching posts. From there, ask it to work with a post's audience, and new leads are checked against your lead criteria before they reach you.

**Start from your leads.** If you already have leads, open each lead's Signals tab and look for hiring-related posts or engagement in the recorded observations. The label (Warm, Related, Activity, or ICP match) shows how strong the evidence is. When you build a campaign, ask for the facts each message needs and review the results in a test before anything sends ([create a campaign](https://docs.traxy.ai/campaigns/create) ). Check that the evidence supports each claim. If a lead has no hiring-related post or engagement, leave the hiring angle out for that person.

## What should a hiring-signal message say?

Reference the role in a way that shows you understand why it matters, then connect it to what you do. Keep the claim to what the evidence supports.

**While the role is open, to the hiring manager:**

> "Saw you're hiring your first SDR. While that seat is open, we help teams like yours find the people already engaging with posts about \[problem\], so the new hire starts with a list worth calling."

**After the hire starts, to the new leader:**

> "Congrats on the new role. Most RevOps leads I talk to spend their first month auditing where leads come from. If it helps, I can show you which people at your target accounts have engaged with \[topic\] on LinkedIn recently."

**With a second signal:**

> "Your comment on \[person\]'s post about outbound getting harder stuck with me, and I noticed you're hiring an SDR. We work on that exact problem: finding the people who are already talking about it."

What to avoid:

- Implying they're unhappy with their current team or tools. An open role doesn't prove that.

- Guessing at budget.

- Sending the same message to every company with the same job title open.

For more examples by signal type, see [from a LinkedIn signal to a message you can back up](https://traxy.ai/blog/linkedin-signal-to-message) .

## What are the limits of hiring signals?

- **Stale posts.** Roles stay listed after they're filled. Check the date and the careers page.

- **Evergreen roles.** Large companies post some roles all year. They say little about a specific need.

- **Recruiter noise.** Agencies post roles for clients without naming them.

- **Wrong owner.** The role might sit in a team that doesn't buy what you sell.

Treat a hiring signal as a reason to look closer. The message still needs to stand up on its own.

## FAQ

**What are hiring signals in sales?**

Public signs that a company is adding people to a function, such as job posts and "we're hiring" announcements. The role tells you which problem is getting budget and an owner.

**Are job postings buying signals?**

They can be, when the role connects to a problem your offer solves. They don't prove a company is ready to buy.

**Who should I contact when a company is hiring?**

Usually the hiring manager or, at a small company, the founder. After the role is filled, the new hire.

**How do I find companies hiring for a specific role?**

Job boards and careers pages list openings. To find the people talking about hiring on LinkedIn, use a social intent search, or ask trax to find posts on the topic.

**Can traxy find people talking about hiring on LinkedIn?**

Yes. Ask trax to find posts on the topic, for example "Find posts about hiring a first sales team", then work with a post's audience. New leads are checked against your lead criteria, and Signal labels (Warm, Related, Activity, and ICP match) show how strong the evidence is.
